Can I Play Too?
Milo wants to join Ari’s cardboard town. Practice asking, handling “not yet,” and choosing support without pressure.
Start mission
What we practice
- Ask about joining with words, a gesture, or a communication aid.
- Respect an answer while choosing whether to wait or do something else.
- Ask a grown-up for support when exclusion repeats or feels hurtful.
Practice an Invitation Without Pressure
Support asking and choosing a next step. Joining does not prove whether a child is likable.
What could Milo choose after “not yet”? Who could help if exclusion happens again and again?
1. Use two toys and blocks. Model asking with words, gestures or a communication aid; allow response time. 2. One toy says “not yet.” Offer waiting, another activity or adult support without rewarding obedience. Swap roles only if the child wants. 3. Try a later invitation and agree on a role. Repeated exclusion, harassment or barriers to participation need adult attention, not demands that a child try harder. Stop or skip anytime; no personal disclosure is needed.
