Can You Help Me Call My Family?
Ari makes a contact card before a library craft session. Help Ari practice a family phone number, ask the librarian for help and keep personal details private.
Start mission
What we practice
- Practice a caregiver’s phone number with their help.
- Use a contact card to ask a staff member for help calling family.
- Keep family contact details off public displays and online posts.
Try together: A pretend call
Make a contact card and practice one number in small groups. No real call is needed.
If you forget part of the number, what could you use to help?
Choose a main caregiver and one agreed backup contact. Write their names and current phone numbers on a folded card. Check the numbers yourself; keep the card inside your child’s bag, not on the outside. At home, say one small group of digits at a time and let your child repeat or point. Use a cardboard phone for a pretend call: “Could you help me call my family?” Let your child check the card whenever needed. Before an outing, identify the help desk or staff member together and agree on a meeting place. Do not stage a separation, place a real call for practice, or upload the card or home address to this lesson.
